Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

I am fasting for religious reasons, can I still have the vaccine?

The HPV vaccine does not contain any nutritional value; therefore it will not cause you to break your fast. However, if you are fasting for a religious festival (Ramadan, Yom Kippur) you may wish to speak to your local faith or community leader to seek further guidance on receiving a vaccine during a fast. The Scottish Islamic Society can provide further information to girls who are fasting during Ramadan in Scotland. They can be contacted on 0141 890 1121 or at info@scottishislamic.org. If you are fasting you should always advise the nurse or doctor before you are given your jab.
